Who do you read in the fat-o-sphere?

Okay, I’ll be honest, I really am not a fan of the fatshion posts.  Don’t get me wrong—I think it is AWESOME SAUCE that beautiful fat ladies and gents are out there taking photos of themselves in dapper outfits and just, well, being fat at the world in awesome ways.

In fact, fatshionista’s OOTD’s (outfit of the day) were a crucial element in me learning to truly see beauty in the variety of shapes that people come in, and begin to see the beauty in my own unique body shape.

However.  I am just not a fan of fashion.  I use a formula of “is it reasonably priced, does it feel comfortable, do I feel like I look decently good in it, and is it occasion-appropriate” to choose clothing.  Beyond that, I’ve just never been into experimenting with fashion or being cutting edge or anything like that.

So all that is to say, I ended up taking the fat feeds off my Google Reader because I was scrolling through so many fatshion posts that my eyes were glazing over and I’m afraid I was missing the other stuff that I might be more interested in.

So, all that is to say, what are your favorite FA blogs?  On which blogs do you drink up every post?  Whose blogs do you eagerly await entries from? I went through and added blogs/people who I know I read all the time back into my Reader, but I know I missed some people, and there might be some great FA bloggers out there who I don’t know about, so I wanted to ask you for recommendations!  Who should I have on my reader?

      Hi William,

      Thanks for the recs!

  2. vesta44 / Sep 14 2010 6:11 pm Fierce Freethinking Fatties (I have to admit, I’m biased, I co-blog there) I’ve been a member for 3 years now, lots of great posts and comments

Right on! Those are two I already have on my list, but I’m glad you mentioned them for others who might be reading. Both great blogs!

Hi – here from Feministe. Have been meaning to write a similar post on my own blog actually!

I’ll add some Australian links here for you because I think the Aus FA movement is pretty awesome at the moment: Fat Lot of Good (I cross-post there too) Definatalie – a lot of fatshion posts, but also some really astute observations about FA, feminism, disability and intersectionality Corpulent (Frances runs the tumblr Hey Fat Chick as well) Nicholosophy – Nicholas Perkins, who also writes at Axis of Fat. Good to have a male perspective. Discourse – Dr Samantha Thomas is a health sociologist and FA ally who now also has her own blog – good to have some other perspectives and a space that is very ‘mainstream’ friendly as well as fat-lovin’. Fat Heffalump – one of the most honest and open bloggers and lots of good writing.

There are more! To be honest I only really read Australian FA blogs + The Rotund lately. There are just too many to keep up with everything else.

    I read you :)

(Yes, I read others too. But I did want to point out that I read you.)

I second the fatshionista recommendation, and the Fatcast as well. is infrequently updated but often poignant. has lots of good basic stuff about the various food questions that come up with FA/HAES.

I read you, as you know ;)

I do like the Family Feeding Dynamics blog – as a parent I find it helpful to get a dose of feeding sanity, especially as my son gets older and asserts his opinions about food more passionately, but that may not be something you find especially relevant to your own life!

It is not solely about fat issues or FA, but the blogger does frequently discuss those topics

  9. ConsciouslyFrugal / Oct 12 2010 5:46 pm

Hey! Look! Someone linked me. Howdy lifetraveler. I knowz you!

I should note that I do occasionally address the “fat issue” on my hippie-loving frugal blog, but I do so while simutaneously threatening people. As in, if you say some fat-hating bullshit, I will kick your sorry ass. Dunno if that’s so much a “discussion” of the issue. *cough*

It’s already been mentioned, but my friend Elizabeth’s blog, is pretty freakin’ awesome.
